A Note from Dana: Reflecting on Allison's “The Art of Wiping” Blog
When Allison from Potty Training Consultant reached out to write about The Original Toilet Mirror, I had no idea how beautifully she would capture the heart and purpose behind our product. Her recent article, The Art of Wiping, is more than just a write-up - it’s a validation of something parents rarely talk about, but deal with every single day.
As a mom, I know how exhausting and frustrating the "potty-trained but not wipe-trained" phase can be. In her blog, Allison dives into the often-overlooked gap between kids learning to use the toilet and actually mastering independence in the bathroom. She breaks down exactly why wiping is so tricky - from lack of visual feedback to limited mobility - and why tools like our mirror are long overdue.
Allison didn’t just write about a product - she captured a parenting problem so many of us face but feel embarrassed to talk about. She acknowledged that kids learn best visually, that many neurodiverse children struggle more with this phase, and that it’s time we had a practical, simple tool to help. She also highlighted the huge emotional component—how being able to wipe independently boosts confidence, dignity, and ownership of personal hygiene for children (and parents, too).
Reading her words made me emotional. It reminded me why Chris and I started this journey: not to create a gimmick, but to create change in the most intimate, overlooked part of parenting.
Thank you, Allison, for helping bring awareness and compassion to this stage of life. And thank you to everyone who's joined us in redefining what it means to be “potty trained.”
